Position Overview:
EZ Freight Inc. is seeking an experienced and strategic Transportation Manager to oversee and optimize our transportation operations. The Transportation Manager will be responsible for managing the daily operations of our transportation network, ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of goods. This role involves coordinating with carriers, managing logistics staff, and implementing strategies to improve transportation efficiency and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management: Oversee the daily transportation operations, including route planning, carrier selection, and scheduling to ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Carrier Management: Develop and maintain relationships with transportation providers, negotiate contracts and rates, and ensure that carriers meet service and compliance standards.
- Fleet Management: Manage the company’s fleet of vehicles, ensuring regular maintenance, compliance with safety regulations, and efficient utilization.
- Cost Optimization: Analyze transportation costs and implement strategies to reduce expenses while maintaining service quality and efficiency.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that all transportation activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety standards and environmental guidelines.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and develop the transportation team, including drivers, dispatchers, and logistics coordinators, to ensure high performance and adherence to company policies.
- Problem-Solving: Address and resolve transportation-related issues, such as delays, equipment failures, or driver shortages, in a timely and effective manner.
- Performance Monitoring: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation, such as delivery times, fuel efficiency, and customer satisfaction, and report on performance to senior management.
- Technology Utilization: Leverage transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software to optimize routes, track shipments, and improve overall efficiency.
- Customer Service: Collaborate with the customer service team to address any transportation-related customer inquiries or issues, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Identify and implement sustainable transportation practices, such as route optimization and fuel-efficient technologies, to reduce the company’s environmental impact.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in transportation management, logistics, or supply chain management, with a proven track record of managing transportation operations and teams.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with internal teams, carriers, and customers.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in route planning and cost analysis.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, including DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle unexpected challenges in a fast-paced environment.
